Brooks turns 2!

We had a great day celebrating Brooks' birthday. He got a haircut for the occassion and took us all to Chuck E. Cheese. We were the only other family there, which made it a true treat for Mommy & Daddy. Grammy joined us for cake and presents and this boy was a happy, grateful kid telling everyone he was 'chu'.

Have you ever seen a kid so excited about jeans??I was so excited to have all of my family together for Christmas. These kids are precious and so thankful for all they received. The big hit was the dinosaur tent Grandma gave Miller, that they spent the entire weekend in(and of course did not get a picture of).

Our first family picture of 2011 (technically New Year's Eve, but who's checking?) The kids rang in the new year at Grammy's while Jason and I went on a lovely date. I think we all initally rang in the new year snoring, but got woken up by firecrackers.
We had a great Christmas with our family, including the Weaver girls. We all get so bummed when they and Grandparents have to go back home. I have promised the kids we will see the Weavers over Spring Break, hopefully passing my 1 year seizure free mark!!!

The Bohannon Family in fact still exists. We are well and thriving and living life! I have been sooooo very bad at updating the blog since the introduction of 1) iPhone 2) Facebook 3) 3 separate camera sources. It has become so unbelievably convenient to just send a camera photo to Facebook as almost everyone I know is on there. But, to be honest, I miss the stories and activities that go along with blogging. So, I am officially stating my New Year's Resolution as being better at blogging and going one step further...getting the thing finally printed on an annual basis. Hold me to it!

He was driving Brooks around on the Gator, but I made him keep it at low speed. During this picture he was telling me that he was done driving Brooks around. The kid's gotta fly!

This is what the kids did in swim lessons. Brooks pretended to be a kitty cat while Miller was jumping off the diving board and sliding down the slide, something I don't think Ella would have done at age 3. Ella was jumping off the board and swimming to the ladder. She was also swimming across the pool by the end of the week. I'm very proud of my kids and their lack of fear for trying to swim. Thank you Ms. Courtney for another great year!

Introducing Bubbles!

Our beloved fish, Chip, died on Friday. He lived a little over a year with us. He had been sick and responded well to medicine, then took a turn for the worse this past week. We learned a lot more about caring for bettas and Chip was implemental in that education. We brought this beauty, Bubbles, home with us this weekend and so far so good.

Promenade Trip

We ran up to the Promenade mall to hear Belle read during Border's storytime. They were holding a princess dress up costume contest, and Miller wanted so badly to participate with his sister and cousins, we let him. A local tv anchor judged the contest, and although none of our kids won, we gave them the royal treatment by taking them for a train ride in 90 degree heat.

Nadia turned 9 this summer and Audrey turns 6 tomorrow. So we decided to have our own little birthday party at Cold Stone Creamery. In Nadia's words, 'this is the best birthday party ever'. It was pretty cool to take a tour of the ice cream shop and make your own creation. Aunt Aimee did a great job helping the younger ones, must be her experience from Braums.;)

Brooks' 1st Haircut

Brooks looks like such a big boy with his new haircut. He was so good for Ms. Taylor and finally reaped the benefits of a haircut from her treat bag. He got his first sucker and looooved it. He came home and proceeded to do big boy things, like unscrew the outlet with a pen. Pens also function to unlock deadbolts as well.

What a great week to share and love on our family, including Aunt Peanut, the week of July 4th. We went roller skating, where Ella showed us how low she could go, attended the Springdale rodeo, and went to a Naturals game and stayed for the fireworks. We enjoyed our own fireworks display at Grammy's house too. These kids were worn out, but not more than the adults!

Okay, so last celebration of the week for this birthday girl. She got to invite some girlfriends to a pool party that our neighbors, the Wears, graciously offered to host. She wanted all things Barbie and the cake to be all pink! There just wasn't enough time in the day for these kids to party like they wanted to, but it was so fun. Thanks so much to all that came and especially to the Wears for their backyard and bonus cocktails!

Our generous, brave, and thoughtful daughter told me 2 weeks before her birthday that she wanted to cut her hair and she wanted to give it to kids that had short hair and wanted long hair. Her donation went to Children with Hairloss. Ms. Taylor did such a great job with her. Ella had her first salon hairwash and in her words, 'didn't freak out at all!' She looks like such a big girl and with making such big girl decisions, I may have to let her go to kindergarten afterall.

So, I couldn't let Ella's actual birthday go down without having some sort of cake to celebrate. Dennis, my Hope Cancer Resource driver, was nice enough to take me to Sam's after treatment one day to grab Ella this Hannah Montana cupcake cake that she loved. She had a great day, full of presents, and hitting the skating rink that night. We were the only family there. It was awesome!

Ella was very busy upstairs one morning and telling me to wait. She finally let me come see her ZOO...all her stuffed animals on the staircase. I guess the babygate was her inspiration. She is the biggest monkey of them all!

Ella & Miller had a blast in the sprinklers one day and I noticed that everytime Ella ran through them she would hold her hair apart so she could see. Miller just does whatever she does without any thought as to 'why' and did the same thing. He makes me laugh.

Katy Days 2010

We should just rename Katy Days "Cousins Weekend at Grandmas". The kids love coming here every year. The adults do to as it is one big class reunion. The petting zoo is always a big hit, and of course, celebrating Ella's 5th birthday is a plus. This was the 1st of her 3 'cakes' for the week. Sweet tooth much?

Ella and Miller performed their last show at the Little Gym a few weeks ago. We call this class the 'no fear' class as the kids will do pretty much anything Ms. Stephanie asks them to do. These are pictures of Ella doing her turn on tippy toes and cartwheel on the balance beam. Her favorite is the bars. Miller did his performance in Ella's class and displayed quite a bit of no fear himself. He only told Ms. Stephanie 'no' once. :)

Our broadway babies did great. We were so proud of both of them. Ella had practiced several times during the week at home and Miller would seem mostly disinterested, but he pulled it out for the performance. They were sad dance was over, but looking forward to the camp this summer.

I am really starting to enjoy all of the school and activities winding down. This week the weather was beautiful and we pulled the baby pool and slide out. WAC had a Butterfly Garden art exhibit that we went to with friends. Ella, Miller, and Marissa were all chosen to come on the stage wearing special armbands that allowed them to be interactive with the floor and draw. We were also able to go to the Duck Park for a picnic and packed a lunch for the ducks. I'm proud to say that no underwear were bitten on this visit! Best part of the week was finding out Melly's baby is healthy and good and going to be a boy!!!

The kids and I went to see Shrek 4 in 3d on opening day last week. It was great, may be my favorite one yet. The glasses lasted all of 10 minutes on the kids, although they demanded they see it in 3D. We spent Saturday at farmer's markets and found a bake sale/cupcake decorating spot for a charity. We couldn't pass up a dip in the Bentonville square fountain. Later we went to our first Naturals game of the year and finally saw Jake the Diamond Dog.

We were absolutely thrilled to be able to celebrate 4 special mommies for Sunday brunch at Copelands. Grammy's friend, Ms. Rachel, joined us since all of her children live out of town. The kids were very patient and good while the mommies enjoyed our mimosas with brunch. We've adopted Ms. Rachel for all such Mother's Day events. We can't get enough mommies!

We had a fabulous turnout of family to celebrate Brooks' 1st year of life. Too bad our little prince woke up that morning with an ear infection. After daddy & Mr. Brad spent the night before putting together the much promised trampoline, it proved to be a hit with the kids, and grandparents alike. Ella's Preschool Mother's Day Program

This was so very special for several reasons. Ella's teacher and class did an excellent job of making all of us moms feel very special. I was proud of Jason for showing up, he was the only daddy represented. They did some cute rhymes, a dance, and handed us flowers, cookbooks, and special picture magnets and cards. The moms got to dance with their child (video was too long, so picture will have to do). That was Ella's favorite part. At the end the kids served their mom cookies and juice BEFORE they got to get any for themselves. I was very impressed with their restraint!

Today marks one year where we had to kick Brooks out of the womb! We are so glad we did, because he has been a true joy to our entire family. He loves his brother and sister more than anything. He is already very opinionated and knows exactly what he wants. He reminds me of his sister at this age in so many ways, and like Miller in so many others, but is uniquely himself! He is the one that made our family complete just in the nick of time!

Yesterday the kids had 2 very successful visits from Dr. Rhodes. They were impressed with how consistent Ella was with her flossing and recaldent and how she makes sure any of her caretakers keep it up as well. Brooks had fun showing Melly all of the cool things at this clinic.

After neurosurgery, Jason and I got a nice little vacation. We ate at an amazing italian restaurant called Mama Santas(so amazing we had to take a picture of FOOD) and finished it off with some Cassata cake at a local bakery. The highlight of our evenings had to be visibly seeing our children when we spoke with them. Technology is great and fills a mommy and daddy's soul.

Pre Surgery Party

These are some pictures we took before I left for my surgery in Cleveland. My best friend, Angela, and her husband came down to visit me, as well as my aunt beth, uncle raymond, and mom. We had a great weekend. Angela and I are always required to do the hair flip photo...I don't think I'll be whipping my head like that for a while. Melly did the balloon countdown while we were gone, where the kids got a new prize everyday. That was a highlight for the kids as well as caretakers. Ella and I colored her nails like easter eggs, I was loving on my rotten Miller, and Brooks was just too cute not to catch a shot. :)

It's a Great day to be alive

The sun is shining through the hotel window, and Jason is sleeping in (because he stayed up way too late worrying something would happen to me). Other than being a little sore, I feel great. I got a full nights sleep and hadn't had that since we've been to Cleveland. I got a shower last night, although still have the sexiest hair you'll ever see until Saturday per doctor's orders. I feel really good. I can take pain meds every 4-6 hours and I went all night and still haven't taken any this morning. It's a balancing act between being sore and being loopy/tired. I am getting around great and feel pretty self sufficient. It still blows my mind that I was discharged only 25 hours after having brain surgery. Jason and I are excited to attend masses this weekend and hopefully a Cavs game or something while we wait over this next week. We're both going to try to work/heal/and keep our spirits high. We have several appts. on Thursday to remove the staples and discuss the results and options to move forward with the neurooncologist, surgeon, and radiologist/oncologist. We are just so thankful to everyone at home for taking care of the kiddos/animals/home project/meals while we have no worries during this time of diagnosis and treatment! Love you all...muuwha!

Now I lay me down to sleep

I wanted to post a note before I go to bed tonight. I am unbelievably grateful to everyone that has supported me and my family over the past several weeks and continues to do so. Jason and I have all the confidence in the doctors and the hospital here in Cleveland. We both have an overwhelming sense of Peace that God has placed in our hearts that all will go well with the surgery tomorrow as well as our children being loved and in good hands at home. We are ready to take on this hurdle, one of many over the next few months. We grab it gratefully and with open arms to expose our strength in our marriage and ourselves. We believe we can not truly appreciate all the blessings in our lives unless we experience some of the sacrifices. I do not think it is a coincidence that we are going through this experience this week during the same week we celebrate Easter and the sacrifices God made with his son for us. Our challenges are minute in comparison. Jason gave me a necklace tonight that reads 'Keep the Faith' and I truly believe as long as I have faith, hope will always follow. I pray the Lord my soul to keep.

Mommy brought the camera but the battery died just as I was getting it out. Luckily Daddy was there with his phone. Ella was the mother & grandmother in Little Red Riding Hood and the oldest billy goat in 3 Billy Goats Gruff. She did great, had all of her lines memorized, and we were so proud of her. Cleveland Clinic

We were already impressed with this hospital based on it's staff, campus, and attentiveness. Then as they were placing my catheter before my MRI, one of the techs says, 'oh, and have you seen the robots that deliver the supplies?' Wicked crazy. We thought the kids would get a kick out of seeing one in action. We are so glad to be home. Thanks to all that helped with the kids and sent prayers.

Evidentally it's true because Gable wanted to go and the President was there as well. We were stuck in downtown traffic and watched them shutdown the entire freeway and airspace area so the pres could make his way out. Jason just really dug the Lebron banner..it was huge.

We had fun! I think Miller was a little overwhelmed, but had a good time. Thank you to all that came to celebrate our big boy's 3rd birthday. We have been so blessed to have our roof repaired and the restoration people here this past week to dry our walls and find the source of a leak in one of our windows. Praise God we had no mold and once they fix the leak, will put humpty back together again.

When Ella gets it in her head that she is going to do something, she doesn't stop. She asked her dad to tape the carpet like Ms. Stephanie recommended so she could practice her cartwheels and handstands correctly. She's getting pretty good. Brooks' Break from Mom

This is the 2nd time that I have taken Brooks to Mom's Day Out. The facility is wonderful in that they allow me to take him on days that I have appointments scheduled and can't take him, which averages about one time/month. He doesn't take the greatest naps there, but really enjoys watching all of the kids and playing with the new toys. Ella & Miller make it their mission on those days to try and see him at every chance they get. He got to spend his first day with Grammy over the weekend as well. I could get used to this. :)

The Snow Can Be Not So Wonderful....

Standing next to our computer, I noticed my socks getting wet and thought maybe the dogs weren't really going to the bathroom out in the snow. As I'm cleaning it up, I realize the 'liquid' is ice cold and is not stopping. We pulled out the bookshelves and discovered this wet corner of the wall. We have a 'dead valley' in our roof structure that needs to be redone to prevent this from happening again. Since we're expecting snow over the next couple of days, Jason is expecting to get on his ladder and pull as much snow out of that valley as possible to avoid further damage.

I think we got 6 inches of snow over a week ago and the kids couldn't wait to get out there and build a snowman with daddy. Since it snowed on Christmas and Miller got his jeep from Santa, he is under the impression that the Jeep is to be driven when it snows.

Ella memorized and recited her address and phone number to her teacher and was so excited that she earned these certificates. We just found out she will be one of the first kids in her class to get a treat from the shot box because she got all of her kindergarten shots last year! Woo hoo, Ella!

Chug A Lug

Brooks seems to have a pattern of being behind my other 2 on milestones and then quickly making up time. Just a week ago he couldn't sit up on his own and now he is solid. Last week he was gagging on table foods and playing with his sippy cup rather than drinking from it. He has started to wean himself over the past couple of days, so I have been pumping his milk into the sippy cup. I came into the kitchen tonight to discover him downing it like a pro. He's also mastered cheerios, so decided to offer up carrots and peas that we were eating at dinner and he gobbled them all up like he's been doing it forever. I'm afraid if I blink he will be all grown up.

Gymnastics Show Week

Ella and Miller both had their end semester performance last week. They both said their favorite part is the bars. Ella did lots of skills with her classmates and some on her own. She has really been working on her cartwheels and handstands. Here she is doing a backhandspring with the aid of Ms. Stephanie, her teacher. Miller graduates to a big boy class now, where he doesn't need Daddy to go in with him. Although it's been fun and they've enjoyed it, I think you can tell from the group picture chaos that it's time for him to move on.

Ms. Catherine decided that Miller was ready to join Ella in dance this week. He was so excited. He had his very own shoes and got to carry their bag. He came in the viewing area after class was over and said, 'Mommy, I did it!' He is looking forward to picking out his own dance bag now! In this picture, Ms. Catherine is lining the kids up to go into the studio where they begin with curtsy's for the girls and a bow for the boys. We are now doubly excited for the dance recital this spring.

This is the T-Rex that Brooks got for Christmas from Santa Claus. Miller has been a little hesitant around him, so we had almost decided to give him to Good Will until daddy had the brilliant idea to place him in the 'naughty chair' aka 'time out'. We have struggled with discipline for Miller in his latest phase of potty talk. Miller now knows that if he wants to talk that way, he has to go sit by T Rex to do it. This may be somewhat cruel, but has been OOOOH so effective!

Jason took Ella & Miller to see this years team tonight. When we took them last year at this time, Miller was more interested in the snacks than the gymnastics. You can see in this picture that he is mesmerized by events. Ella's favorite was the uneven bars, Miller's was the balance beam. Big Red came up to their section and it was much too close for Miller's comfort, but Ella got right in for a photo op. They later got autographs from the team on their posters and put them in their room.

IMPROVISE! We got more snow over the weekend and we had pretty much been home bound most of the holiday due to the flu. We have one of the BEST driveways for sledding, so the kids were very excited when mommy & daddy pulled out a pillow and a laundry basket. I was making lunch for them and kept hearing Ella scream, went out and she was raising her arms in the air when she would go down like she was on a roller coaster. Of course, she stopped doing it when I brought out the camera. Jason got a major workout pushing them back up the driveway and the kiddos had a blast!

Brooks is 8months old today

Brooks is completely getting the concept of smiling for the camera. He broke 2 more teeth through on New Year's Eve making 5 out so far. He's got one more right around the corner. He is rolling everywhere and sitting up well, unless he's holding something...then he would rather fall than let go of it. We have caught him doing a backwards scoot and hiking up on all 4s a few times. I really don't think I'm prepared for true mobility.

Budding Photographers

These are pictures the kids took with our camera over the weekend. Most of Miller's were of our knees and laps until he 'discovered' the screen. I got out the video camera when I heard over making dinner, 'ok, now miller, put your legs here and your arms here and sit this way'. She was totally getting into being a real photographer and he was doing what every good little brother does...whatever big sister wants him to do.

Cousins

We had a great week while the cousins were here. Dominic, Nadia, & Audrey were the best playmates and such good kids during all of the 'quiet time' while Brooks napped. I always love it when the cousins come to visit, because I rarely hear any whining or have to break up any fights between my kids, which leaves me time to catch up with my sister and cuz, Dameon. After their past few visits of talking about it, we finally went ice skating at the Jones Center. It was packed, but the kids had soooo much fun(except Miller, he thought he was going to get to ride in the big orange car...aka the rink cleaner). They started off wall walking and by the end of the session were not holding onto the wall at all. Ella couldn't stop talking about it the whole way home. She & Miller have asked me everyday when the next time we will see the cousins again.

Santa brought Miller the much asked for jeep and he took it out for a spin asap. Ella was excited about making snow angels and helping daddy shovel the driveway. Mommy was excited daddy was home so she could stay in the toasty warm house.

Having 3 healthy & happy kids is all I ever want for Christmas. I loved having Grandma here to share Jesus' birthday as well: from mass, to the big feast, to the big day. Notice Ella is already dressed. Jason went upstairs on Christmas morning to video tape them coming down, and Ella said she wanted to get dressed for the day before she came down to see what Santa brought her. Talk about priorities!

Belated 7 month

Before Brooks actually turned 7 months old he got another tooth (3 total) and started rolling both ways and scooting to get around. Last time I weighed him he was 16.5 lbs. He still needs a little support when sitting (i.e. Gable) but is doing really well at balancing in his chair and saucer. He is grabbing at finger foods and getting them to his mouth, as well as drinking from a sippy cup. We put him in a restaurant high chair for the first time last weekend and when I came out from washing my hands saw him drinking from the straw like our other 2 used to do. It was big mommy 'Wub' moment for me. You forget those sweet little things so quickly.

We went up to my Dad & Sharon's house last weekend to reunite with some of her side of the family. Aimee, Dameon, Nadia, Audrey, & Dominic also came down. We had our Christmas with them, stockings and all. Grandma & Grandpa were way to good to all of us and we have the candy to prove it. ;) Miller digs his weedeater and plans on helping dad out in the yard next summer. Grandma Sharon also got out some of her bells from her collection and let the kids ring them. The girls loved the princess bells the best.

I was lovin' Miller's hair flip when he woke up the other day. We did finally get it cut last week. I never know what to expect when Ella comes downstairs in the mornings. She usually jumps in as if to say 'ta dah' with a big smile on her face. I had to take a picture of this number. I told her that I only hope her fashion choices are a reflection of her inner self....bright and colorful!

We traveled to Tulsa 2 weeks ago to reunite with my Dad's side of the family. The kids mostly watched all of the older kids in awe while Jason and I had a great time catching up with the clan. I was able to sneak some of my Aunt Ruth's famous peanut butter balls and even got the recipe!

Hudman Visit

We celebrated Christmas with the Hudman's earlier this month. As usual the Aunts spoiled our kids rotten with lots of love and attention. One of Ella's gifts was a set of girl dollies that she stuffed in her shirt and announced she was going to have twin girls just like Aunt Jennifer. We are really looking forward to our trip to TX in the spring to meet our new nieces and play with Jake on his turf.

Wow, it's been a while since I posted. I got a picture of the older 2 with Santa this year, but Brooks was just so sick and tired. I got a shot of him with santa with my own camera that I got his ornament made from. Maybe next year we'll have better luck. Ella asked for a Barbie doll, Miller a jeep, and Brooks just pulled on Santa's beard. Good thing it was real.

I don't even need words for these pictures to tell you how much fun these kids had in the few short hours they got to see each other at Grandpa & Grandma Sharon's. We had the best time eating, talking and watching the kids put on a play where the hunter (Nadia) was attacked by the turkeys (the other 3) at the end. The whole day was truly lovely.

The kids are so proud of their Gingerbread house work of art that Grammy got them as a holiday break project. Miller's bandaid is over his gash from the stocking hanger landing on his head when he tried to pull his stocking down. He hasn't touched his stocking since. We got all of the Christmas decorations up over Thanksgiving break as well. Ella is such a big girl, this year she decorated the Christmas tree all by herself!

Poor Miller is so prone to ear infections when he gets a cold. This last time he got a double ear infection and ruptured one of his eardrums. He had to wear cotton in his ears for his showers, and we thought he looked pretty funny.

Preschool Thanksgiving Programs

Last week Ella's class held a visitor's day for special friends. They performed songs and gave fruit as they learned about sharing. Both Grammy and Grandpa Bob were able to attend. She was so excited that they got to see her at school. Later that week her class did a pow wow where they wore the same hats and vests they made. This time they were hunting and caught a bear. I got a few pictures of Ella with her good friends Marissa and Mia. Ella has been drawing a tee-pee on all of her artwork since that week.

We had a nice visit this weekend with Jason's dad & stepmom. The kids had a good time playing with their dog and cats. Their gifts were hits, Miller got the firetruck. The kids have talked about them everyday since. We need to see them more often!

Miller woke to a 103 fever Thursday and flat out felt awful. I found him laying on his blankie in the middle of the living room. He barely had the energy to protest when I suggested mommy carry him to his bed. I took him in mine so I could keep an eye on him and by the time I brought back his juice he was sound asleep. He slept most of the morning and early afternoon, and by 3pm announced that he was ready for lunch. I was so happy to see my boy showing signs of life again. He felt good enough that evening to enjoy movie night with a Quik shake and the cool popcorn Aunt Carmen & Aunt Jennifer sent from their Pennsylvania trip. He still has a fever but is acting great. And although we are very proud of him when he shares, we are praying that he keeps this little bug to himself.

Kansas City Trip

We finally got to go trick or treating with the Weaver girls! Since we didn't have time to do our annual nighttime trip to Deanna Rose, we all went during the day with Dameon. The kids loved just being together, learning, petting the animals, and catching fish (yes, that's mommy baiting the pole with a worm). No wonder our kids repeatedly said, 'I miss Nadia & Audrey' after we were back home.

Friday Ella's preschool had a party for Halloween and invited the families. Miller got to sit at the table with Ella and share in the pumpkin cakes that they made. Later they played some cute games. Ella was REALLY good at catching the marshmallow with her mouth since it is one of her favorite snacks.

Brooks' 1/2 Birthday

Within one week Brooks' rolled over, started eating cereal, got his bottom 2 teeth, and caught his first cold. He is 16lbs & 16 3/4 inches tall. Although he is slower than our other 2 were on the physical side, he greatly exceeds them on the feeding side. There is rarely any food pushed back out and he gives us a big open mouth for each spoonful. He is our families blessing from God and we are so grateful for him.

2 More Cousins!

We found out last night that we will be getting 2 more girl cousins. Aunt Carmen and Aunt Jennifer have picked out names for Riley Klein and Reese Kennedy. They are healthy and growing well and we couldn't be more thankful! We are so looking forward to meeting these girls next spring.
